Where they Eat: Chocolate Robots and Giresi’s Pizza Factory
The Chocolate Robots, comprised of Matt, Mutt and Marco Giresi, probably find themselves at Giresi’s Pizza Factory in Sarnia, Ontario more often than they want to. Afterall, it is the pizzeria that their parents own and the one that all three work at. Along with their uncle, the three brothers man the kitchen meaning getting out and gigging can be difficult (no restaurant boss would want to give three of their finest kitchen workers off at the same time). Giresi’s Pizza Factory has been around since 1976. Matt, Mutt and Marco’s parents started it after getting married. Mike’s pizza of choice is a pie that is so new it hasn’t been added to the menu yet. He’s thinking of calling it the Veggie Legit. This beast of a dish is pizza dough covered with spinach, roasted garlic, sun dried tomatoes, mozzarella, artichokes, caramelized onions with olive oil as the base. Throw on some parmigiana and a light drizzle of balsamic glaze before putting it in the oven and you have something that sounds absolutely magic.
When they can escape the kitchen, the Chocolate Robots make Unicorns style lo-fi indie rock on their father’s old tube and tape equipment. Their debut album, Pizzaface, includes mixing by Thom Monahan (Devandra Barnhart, Vetiver) and Mark Lawson (Arcade Fire, Unicorns) both of whom worked to salvage it from sounding like this. While I thoroughly enjoyed most of the album the highlight is “Impossible Princess.” This track would not stop ringing in my ears. While others were singing Auld Lang Syne and Silent Night throughout the holidays I was humming about being called a pervert and a freak.
I don’t regret it one bit. Neither will you.

Zo: I echo those thoughts to a t. If you can’t do the pizza, the raw is the next best thing
